Happy New Year!

I wish you all a happy, healthy New Year!
May we all see clearly our way to enjoy the blessings that we have and hold dear our loved ones!

Today, as is tradition in the South, we had black eyed peas and collard greens.

They were so very good... with cornbread and a pork roast ...yummy.

When I was growing up, we had to observe all sorts of  New Years day superstitions and I promptly disregarded the first one which was to get up very early... the whole rise and shine thing...
I never sleep in, but did today and frankly, it was wonderful.

I finished a knitting project and did a bit of tidying up.

The weather was quite balmy, compared to the temperatures of late, and with the notion that there were no longer dogs to contend with during my walk, I popped in some  music and set off to walk.  I did not get out of the driveway before I was attended by Daisy, who hasn't gone on walks in several years, and Leo, the pitiful OLD cat, directly underfoot.  No amount of shooing and scolding could get them to turn and go home, so I had to cut my walk short, less the cat and dog also get run over by a car.  It wasn't the pleasant walk for exercise and peace of mind that I'd imagined and honestly, it made me miss the dogs even more.  Both Daisy and Leo seem to be keenly aware of the loss I feel and are, in their own way, trying to make it better.

A really fun job today was shelling pecans.  My son in law"s parents sent a very generous box full of pecans from their tree.  Our two trees didn't have two dozen pecans this year between them.
So, these lovely pecans will be a real boon to my baking and cooking for quite some time.

Turns out the teenager is excellent with the old timey nut cracker.  Set properly, the nuts come out whole and beautiful.  We got a chuckle out of the fact that the nutcracker was here long before I was and it's still in it's original box.

My goal this year is to get some things organized around here, starting with my sewing room, which has been neglected to the point of not even wanting to get in there and sew.  I figure if I pick an area that needs organizing each month and get that done, at the end of the year, I'll be in a better place... or at least a neater, more organized place.

As much as I've loved having everyone home for the holidays, I'm very much, it turns out, a creature of habit... I'll be glad to get back to the 'normal' routine of school and work next week.  Routine is a nice thing sometimes!
